Dry brushing – is it worth it?

Dry brushing is a body massage with a dry, firm, natural bristle brush to stimulate the pores and open them up. It is thought that the coarse bristles will help to remove dead skins cells and improve the skin’s ability to release toxins though the pores. The strokes are done in specific directions to help get rid of flaky skin, encourage lymphatic flow, increase circulation, detoxify and help digestion.

mY PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS:

pro’s of dry brushing:

  • GENTLE EXFOLIATION – dry burhs helps to lift off dead skin cells and buff away dry and flaky skin to leave a smoother texture.
  • LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE – it stimulates lymphatic flow which helps to detox the body naturally and reduce puffiness.
  • BOOSTED CIRCULATION – brushing increases blood flow which helps your skin get nutrients faster. It gets your blood moving, to give you that energised, post-workout glow.
  • STRESS RELIEF RITUAL – if done mindfully, it can be a calming self-care habit. Perfect for slow life mornings.
  • SKIN PREP FOR CYCLE SYNCING – during your luteal phase, when skin naturally gets duller and more congested, dry brushing can be a gentle and easy way to encourage renewal.

CON’S OF DRY BRUSHING:

  • CAN IRRITATE SENSITIVE SKIN – not everyone’s skin loves it, especially if you’re prone to eczema or rosacea.
  • TEMPORARY RESULTS – its not a miracle cure! The glow is real but can be short-lived if it is not paired with a consistent skincare routine.
  • RISK OF OVERDOING IT – brushing too hard or too often it can damage your skin barrier. You need to ensure you are always gentle.

SO…IS DRY BRUSHING WORTH IT?

In my opinion – YES!! But you need to approach it as a ritual, embed it into your morning routine, it is not a one-time fix all practice. Dry brushing can elevate your self-care routine, especially when synced with your cycle.

It is a moment to connect with your body, gently detox and prep your skin for deep nourishment.
